Boiler System Repairs
When it comes to your boiler system, experience matters
Whether you have a boiler or forced air heating system, if you run into a problem your next step will most likely be a phone call to a licensed heating company. Makes sense, but beware, not all heating technicians are created equal. The old adage that practice makes perfect also holds true in the heating industry. Therefore, just because a technician is licensed does not always mean knowledgeable in the specific heating system you might need help with.
Not all heating systems are created equal
For a boiler system repair, there is a certain amount of specific training required to understand how it operates. We have seen or heard of customers having “not-so-great” experiences with technicians who did not know how to perform a boiler system repair but tried to do it anyway. Recommendations to replace a boiler when there could have easily been a repair, boiler systems getting serviced incorrectly, or technicians spending hours trying to repair equipment that should have been replaced. These are just some of the problems that can occur if the heating and cooling company you are using does not know enough about hydronic heating.
The difference with Doyle Heating and Cooling
Our HVAC team has the real-world experience necessary to deal with any home heating scenario. When it comes to hydronics, and boilers in particular, they’ve been factory trained in what to look for and how to fix boiler problems. They will tell you the best option when it comes to repairing your broken equipment, if possible, or if replacing the units is ultimately the better option.
When we get the call from a customer needing a boiler system repair, we have a specific protocol we follow. While there is no set formula, because every customer’s situation is unique, this standardized approach helps us identify challenges before they happen. Let’s look at what we do:
- Assess how the unit was originally installed, including code compliance.
- Perform combustion analysis testing
- Test for carbon monoxide in the boiler room
- Test the quality of the boiler water, testing the pH and magnetite levels which can both greatly affect the longevity of the system.
- We perform an initial diagnostic to determine the problem.
- We then provide an estimate to the customer for what needs to be done and how much it will cost. If approved we would go forward with the work.
We hope that this gives you an overview of our initial process and demonstrates the importance of boiler repair experience. If you need help fixing your boiler or would like to get annual maintenance done, please feel free to give us a call.
