New VIQUA sanitizer installation

Good water gone bad: a sanitizer story

There are definitely some great advantages to being on well water and lower cost of delivery is surely one of them. On the other side of the argument, however, water from a well can tend to have high levels of calcium and magnesium, classifying it as hard water, and can also have higher concentrations of both iron and sulfur, elements that not only make the water smell bad, but are probably not recommended for continuous consumption. Enter the sanitizer solution. This wonderful, all-in-one device acts as a softener, removing excess calcium and magnesium to help increase the life expectancy of your water system, and also removes iron and sulfur to make your water healthier and smell better.

VIQUA sanitizer for water conditioning

This project had us out in the wonderful city of Bowmanville Ontario, just east of Oshawa and west of Newcastle. Our customer draws their residential water from a well on the property and were concerned about a sulfur smell coming from the taps. Our team of water experts quickly jumped into action and performed a water test. The sample came back with high levels of calcium, iron and sulfur, making it a perfect candidate for the VIQUA sanitizer. Having made our recommendations to the homeowner, we received the go ahead to install. Here’s how things transpired:

  • Turned off the water heater, shut the water off at the main and drained the pipes
  • Cut into the main line and positioned the sanitizer in between the well pressure tank and the house water lines
  • Installed the discharge tube on the water sanitizer head
  • Ran the overflow tube from the side of the water conditioner tank and the discharge tube to the floor drain
  • Put the bypass valve on to the water conditioner’s head valve
  • Connected the water supply to the bypass valve
  • Connected the sanitizer to the water lines
  • Turned the water and water heater back on
  • Plugged the control valve in and added water and salt to the brine tank
  • Put the sanitizer into the backwash stage and set the bypass valve to the service position
  • Let the conditioner run through the complete backwash cycle
  • Tested the system for leaks

Net result, not only did we solve for the sulfur smell, but we helped to remove other impurities to create an overall better water condition.
