Is it time to install a new air conditioner?
If you can't handle the heat, get an air conditioner
You have almost made it through the summer season, but just when you think you are in the clear here comes another heat wave. It’s a tough decision to make, is it time to install a new air conditioner? There are several factors to consider. If any of these situations sound familiar, then it’s time to consider installing a new air conditioner.
Age of equipment
If your A/C unit is reaching the end of its lifespan, approximately 15 years, you likely won’t get much more time out of it anyway. You can sink some money into repairs but you still will have to invest in a new one in the near future. It may be a good idea to avoid costly repairs and accept that it is time to consider a new air conditioner. The upside to a new install is that you know it will be many years before you have to put more money into it.
Making strange noises
If your unit has started to make some new noises, or even worse it has been making noises for a while and they have gotten louder, it is trying to tell you something. Air conditioners should run fairly quietly and they shouldn’t all of a sudden start making new noises. If the unit starts making noises you should get it looked at and consider the idea of installing a new air conditioner.
Increased electric bill
While you will pay more for your electric bills in the summer when you are running an air conditioner, if you notice an unusual increase as compared to the previous year this can be indicative of a bigger problem. This could mean that your air conditioner is having to work harder to produce the same results and therefore, burning out. Have a good look at your electric bill.
Multiple repairs in a short timeframe
Constant repairs are not good for your wallet, but it also means that your ac is hanging on by a thread. If you are having multiple parts fail, one after the other, the system is telling you it is on its way out. It is a good time to think about installing a new air conditioner to get you through the summer comfortably.
